Mumbai, 02 October, 2015: Mumbai Khadi Utsav a grand exhibition cum sale of khadi and village industries products inaugurated by Shri Arvind Sawant, Member of Parliament at Khadi Bhavan, D.N. Road, Fort, Mumbai on the pious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd October 2015, organized by KVIC, the exhibition will last up to 31 December 2015. On the occasion Shri Husain Dalwai, M.P(Rajya Sabha), Smt. Snehal Ambekar, Mayor Mumbai, Shri Arun Kumar Jha, CEO, KVIC, Shri Mohit Jain, CVO, KVIC, Shri K. S Rao, Dy. CEO, KVIC, Shri Haresh Shah, Secretary, Maharashta Khadi and V. I. Sangh, Shri J.N. Bhuta, Trustee, Khadi and Village Industries Association Trust, Veteran Gandhian, Justice Chandrashekher Dharmadhikari and Directors and officials of KVIC also marked their presence.


Shri Arun Kumar Jha CEO and Commissioner, KVIC addressing the event said the exhibition is holding the products according to the preference and choice of Mumbaikars and we are now more focused on readymade garments of Khadi. Emphasizing on the need to manufacture not only market oriented but also product oriented khadi, he said there is growing demand of khadi in customers. He also there has been a positive change in people’s mind after Prime Minister’s appeal to buy Khadi which resulted in to tremendous hike in KVI products sale.



Shri K. S Rao, Dy. CEO, KVIC appreciating the efforts of KVIC said Khadi Bhavan, Fort itself marked the sale of 40 lakhs on the opening day of Khadi exhibition and in Khadi Utsav, Delhi it was around 50 Lakhs, which marks a huge success. This massive jump in Khadi sale is highly motivating for all who are associated with this sector. He also said that Khadi has adapted with the times and continues to appeal to modern tastes.


Shri Arvind Sawant Member of Parliament exhilarated to witness the grand scale of arrangement of Khdai Utsav and said that this is a very good endeavor and is highly appreciable.

Veteran Gandhian, Justice Chandrashekher Dharmadhikari with his due guidance encouraged to wear Khadi. 

Shri Husain Dalwai MP (Rajya Sabha), wished that the sale of khadi should touch new heights month on month.Smt. Snehal Ambekar Mayor Mumbai said that promotion of khadi is synonyms to promoting out traditional values and culture. 
  
The exhibition contains variety of exquisite KVI products from all over the country such as, exclusive products of Silk, Muslin, fabric and ready-made as well as other goods are  available for sale in addition to aloe vera beauty products, wood craft, Designer wear  etc.

The major attraction of the inaugural programme was dance by students of Gandhi shikshan Bhavan “Charkha chala chala ke lenge hum swaraj”.
