VrikshVardhan 2026: Second International Arboriculture Conference Opens in Mumbai with Grand Inaugural Ceremony

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to Attend Conference on March 8
Mumbai, March 7, 2026:The Second International Arboriculture Conference — VrikshVardhan 2026 — themed 'Growing Cities, Greener Canopies', was inaugurated today with a grand ceremony at Hotel Sahara Star, Mumbai. Jointly organised by the Amenity Tree Care Association (ATCA) and Nanaji Deshmukh Pratishthan, the inaugural session was graced by Maharashtra Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar, Mumbai BJP President Amit Satam and Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tavde.
The inauguration was set in motion with a welcome address by Aryan Pandey, CEO of Nanaji Deshmukh Pratishthan. Vaibhav Raje, Director of ATCA, presented the organisation's journey and the significance of this conference. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Sanjay Pandey, Chairman of Nanaji Deshmukh Pratishthan.
Following the inauguration, a significant fireside chat on 'Cities, Governance and Trees' was held, ably moderated by Richa Pinto, Assistant Editor, Times of India. BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department Asim Gupta, and Chief Minister's Chief Advisor Kaustubh Dhavse shared valuable insights on urban tree conservation, governance and sustainable city planning. The discussion underscored that placing trees at the centre of urban development is the need of the hour.
Architect and co-founder of Bombay Greenway and Love Your Parks (LYP) Mumbai, Alan Abraham, delivered the keynote address on 'Urban Public Spaces, Green Infrastructure and Citizen Participation'. He effectively highlighted the critical role of architecture and civic engagement in addressing the climate crisis.
Tomorrow, March 8, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will attend the conference at 2:00 PM. UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador and acclaimed actress Dia Mirza will be the keynote speaker for the day. Sessions by global experts will feature in-depth deliberations on urban tree conservation, arboriculture practices and climate change.
